Tanca supports multiple clock-in methods at the same time. Choosing the wrong method is the root of most timesheet complaints, so read this article before configuring anything.
Six methods
| Method | How it works | Suitable for | Weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPS | The app checks the phone's coordinates against the defined attendance point | Offices, stores, field sales staff | Location errors indoors and in high-rise buildings |
| WiFi | The app checks whether the phone is connected to the correct company network | Fixed offices, factories with WiFi coverage | Cannot be used outside WiFi range |
| Face photo | Employees take a photo of their face when clocking in | Places that need to prevent buddy punching | Requires enough light and no face masks |
| QR code | Scan a QR code placed at the work location | Construction sites, warehouses, mobile points of sale | The code can be photographed and shared |
| Attendance machine | Fingerprint or card reader at the door, synced to the system | Factories, places where employees don't use smartphones | Requires investment in hardware and an internal network |
| AI Camera | The camera recognizes employees' faces as they walk past | Store chains, factories with many people | Hardware costs; must be installed in the right position |
Choose based on your real situation
| Your business | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Single-location office, all employees have smartphones | WiFi as the primary method, GPS as backup |
| Store chain with many locations | GPS for each location; consider the AI Camera at busy locations |
| Factory, workers don't use smartphones | Fingerprint or card attendance machines |
| Field sales staff | GPS with the Clock in from anywhere option for that group only |
| Construction sites, warehouses | QR codes or project-based clock-in |
| Places with a history of buddy punching | AI Camera, or require a face photo when starting a shift |
| Areas with weak signal | Also turn on Offline clock-in |
You can enable multiple methods at the same time. A store might use GPS for the day shift and an attendance machine for the night shift. But don't turn everything on in the first week — each method is a separate source of errors that needs monitoring.
Three questions before deciding
- Do employees have smartphones? If not, every app-based method is ruled out.
- Do they work in one fixed location or move around? If fixed, WiFi is the simplest; if moving, GPS.
- Is there a risk of buddy punching? If so, you need a face verification layer, whether via the app or the AI Camera.
Next steps
- Turn methods on or off in B6-03 General settings.
- Set up GPS, WiFi, and QR points in B6-04.
- Connect the AI Camera in B6-05, and attendance machines in B6-06.
- Exceptions for individuals in B6-11.
